There is strictly ONE piece available in our collection. In the pantheon of 20th-century Chinese ink art, Wang Xuetao (王雪涛, 1903–1982)—a direct disciple of Qi Baishi—stands as the undisputed master of freehand small-style flower-and-bird painting (Xiao Xieyi Huaniao). Renowned for capturing the sudden, joyous vitality of living creatures through brisk, expressive brushstrokes and luminous mineral colors, his works celebrate the spontaneous pulse of the natural world.
This Pure Hand-Painted Zhongtang Painting carries forward that legendary lineage in an authentic, museum-scale central hall scroll. In traditional Chinese estate architecture, the Zhongtang (中堂) occupied the most sacred, honored wall of the main reception hall—facing the front courtyard to immediately establish the family’s cultural cultivation, moral harmony, and scholarly distinction to visiting dignitaries.
Executed entirely by hand on fine Xuan paper and mounted on traditional silk brocade, the composition showcases Wang Xuetao’s signature dynamic brushwork: spirited songbirds alight upon weathered botanical branches, their postures full of curiosity and life, set against lush, layered blossoms that explode with spring vitality. In classical Chinese iconography, paired birds and blooming flowers represent the harmony of Yin and Yang, enduring domestic joy, and the arrival of wealth and auspicious fortune (Fugui Jixiang).
The painting is authenticated with the artist’s hand-brushed calligraphy signature and hand-stamped vermilion cinnabar artist seals (Yinzhang). Finished with weighted wooden scroll rollers that allow it to hang straight with imperial dignity, this scroll is scaled to anchor formal salons, high-ceiling reception rooms, executive offices, and tea pavilions.
