This old bronze cloisonné plate screen comes from a Tibetan temple collection and is decorated with the Five Bats (“Wufu”) motif encircling a longevity character—an arrangement that signifies the “Five Blessings”: long life, wealth, health, virtue, and a peaceful end. Often given as a reward or honorific gift, such plates stand as compact, highly symbolic emblems of a well-blessed life.

The cloisonné enamel work traces bats, clouds, and auspicious symbols in fine metal lines, then fills them with jewel-toned color that has gently mellowed with age. Mounted as a standing plate screen, it is meant to be displayed upright on a desk, altar table, shelf, or cabinet rather than used as tableware.

In a home or office, this piece functions as both an “amass wealth” ornament and a blessing plate—suitable for Temple & Ritual arrangements, study corners, and places where you wish to emphasize enduring good fortune and longevity.
