This old bronze gourd from a Tibetan temple collection is cloisonné enameled with Taiji (yin-yang) and Bagua (Eight Trigrams) motifs—a classic combination used to gather fortune and ward off negative influences. Traditionally hung in worship halls and homes as a protective charm, the gourd form itself is associated with health, longevity, and the containment of blessings.

The surface is wrapped in cloisonné enamel: fine metal wires trace out Taiji symbols, trigram patterns, and floral or cloud-like designs, then are filled with layers of color that have mellowed with age. The small size makes it easy to place, but the symbolism is dense - protection, balance, and fortune gathered and held.

In a contemporary home, this gourd functions as a town-house exorcism and wealth amulet. Hang or place it near an entry, on an altar table, or on a high shelf where it can symbolically watch over the room. It pairs naturally with other Temple & Ritual pieces—bells, vajras, bowls, and thangkas.
