This 10" Tibetan Temple Collection candlestick depicts a sika deer rendered in old bronze and cloisonné enamel, carrying a candle cup on its back. The gentle stance of the deer, combined with enameled floral patterns across its body, gives the piece a quietly luminous presence—part guardian, part offering vessel.

In Buddhist iconography, deer are closely associated with the Deer Park at Sarnath, where the Buddha first turned the wheel of Dharma. They symbolize gentleness, receptivity, and the harmonious listening that allows teachings to take root. As a candle holder, this sika deer becomes a moving image of light borne with grace through a peaceful landscape.

The cloisonné work adds color and detail without overwhelming the calm silhouette: fine metal lines frame blossoms and scrolls, with enamel filling the spaces in soft, jewel-like tones. When a candle is lit, the flame draws out subtle reflections from both enamel and bronze, making the deer a natural focal point on an altar table, console, or sideboard.

Use it as a single sculptural candlestick or pair it with other Temple Collection candle holders, incense burners, and figures to create a layered worship hall vignette at home.

Materials & origin

  • Materials: Old bronze with cloisonné enamel floral patterns
  • Form: Sika deer statue with integrated candle holder / candlestick
  • Origin: China
  • Condition: Good vintage condition with natural patina

Placement & care
Place on a stable, heat-resistant surface when using a candle. Keep away from curtains, papers, and drafts, and never leave a burning candle unattended. When not in use, it can remain on display as a symbolic deer figure. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners and prolonged direct sunlight to protect the enamel and bronze finish.
